I’m Howard Canning. I have been a web developer and administrator at multiple universities in Boston since 2012. I have worked for Boston University, Harvard, UMass Boston, Tufts, Bentley and Brandeis and have also taught IT full-time for 4 years at a vocational school. Typically I administer and extend CMS like Drupal, WordPress, Cascade Server, ExpressionEngine and Modx for universities and work with marketing, communication and enrollment functions to help achieve their goals. I also work as an administrator for major ed tech apps like Zoom, Digital Measures, Kaltura, Blackboard LMS, Encore, Slate, Elements, Qualtrics and dozens of others. I guess you could call me a Jack of all Trades! Right now I am vibe coding building NextJS apps self hosted on Appwrite , Vercel, DigitalOcean and databases on NeonDB and Supabase.
I learned web development as a kid back in Ireland and attended University College Cork where I did degrees in business and IT.
I will try and add some useful news and apps to this websites on a weekly basis and hope to bring some utility to IT professionals in the higher ed space. I can be contacted via LinkedIn or howard@canning.dev.
